XRP Faces a Weak Tape as Evernorth Lines Up 473 Million Tokens for Institutional Use

XRP’s day-to-day price action was driven less by Ripple-specific news than by a macro shock: the token fell 2.6% as hotter-than-expected US inflation data hit risk assets across the board. The annual rate rose to 3.7% in September, versus forecasts for 3.6%, while core inflation came in at 2.6% against expectations of 2.5%, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Reuters attributed the broader slide in major cryptocurrencies to the inflation surprise and to rising expectations of further interest-rate increases.

That market backdrop sat alongside a more strategic development for the asset. Evernorth said it plans to deploy its reserve of 473 Mio. XRP in institutional investment strategies, with the launch scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. The company named Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo as its first partners, making clear that the initiative centers on a defined XRP holding rather than simply on using Ripple’s infrastructure.

The stated aim is to do more than park the tokens. Evernorth wants to generate returns and increase the amount of XRP per share over time. Even so, the firm has not disclosed how much of the reserve will be allocated first, nor has it set out expected returns. The partner lineup sharpens the outline of the plan, but it does not mean the reserve has already been deployed.

Ripple’s role is to support the XRP Ledger infrastructure. Kraken and Coinbase are expected to provide exchange access and liquidity, while BitGo is set to handle institutional custody. Hugo Jeandesboz, as CIO, is responsible for allocation, liquidity and counterparties. That division of labor matters because it shows the operational framework for active reserve management, even if the exact strategies and the portion of XRP earmarked for them remain undisclosed.

There are still formal hurdles to clear. The agreements are subject to closing conditions and required approvals, so the announced start remains a plan rather than a completed step. The full reserve should also not be confused with the amount intended for immediate deployment.

Evernorth also drew a line between its first phase and later blockchain-native uses. Lending and decentralized finance strategies on the XRP Ledger are meant to come only once the necessary infrastructure is available and dependable. Those lending functions still need to be activated by validators and then tested in operation, and no separate timetable was given for that stage.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

That distinction is important because other Ripple-linked announcements yesterday pointed in different directions. DriveWealth and Ripple said they plan to integrate RLUSD settlement on the XRP Ledger in Europe first, with an expansion to the US planned later. The setup also includes Ripple Payments for cross-border financing and custody for DriveWealth’s European activities. Separately, Standard Chartered has offered institutional custody for RLUSD on the XRP Ledger through its DIFC branch since Monday.

Ripple and Stripe-owned Privy also introduced embedded wallets for XRP Ledger applications. The goal is to let users move XRP, RLUSD and other assets issued on the network without having to manage separate crypto wallets. Developers can create and manage wallets and sign transactions, with policy controls and transaction-fee sponsorship planned as added features.

Media reports pointed to more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions on the XRPL AI Hub dashboard today, across 169 registered traders. But the activity level did not translate into large payment volumes: the same report cited cumulative payments of only around 6.991 XRP and 12.752 RLUSD. In other words, high technical throughput does not automatically imply large cash flows.

A separate Ripple and LMAX Group arrangement to use RLUSD as collateral remains subject to documentation, testing, approvals and regulatory requirements. Meritz Securities is also exploring digital custody and tokenization with Ripple for South Korea’s capital markets. In neither case is XRP usage, settlement asset status or specific products confirmed.

For XRP investors, the split picture is straightforward: the network’s institutional plumbing is widening, but many of the new use cases are tied to RLUSD or are still being prepared. Evernorth’s reserve strategy is the most direct XRP-specific development, yet the company has not provided enough detail to quantify the near-term demand impact. The token’s latest decline, by contrast, reflects a broad macro move rather than a negative corporate update.
